Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL), University of Illinois at Chicago

EVL is a graduate research laboratory specializing in the research and development of networked, high-resolution visualization, collaboration and virtual-reality display hardware and software systems, and the design and implementation of international networking infrastructure. It is a joint effort of UIC’s College of Engineering and School of Art and Design, and represents the oldest formal collaboration between engineering and art in the country offering graduate MS, PhD and MFA degrees. EVL has received worldwide recognition for developing the CAVE™ and ImmersaDesk™ virtual-reality systems, and, more recently, the GeoWall low-cost passive stereo display, the LambdaVision tiled display, the Varrier autostereoscopic display, and the LambdaTable and TacTile horizontal high-resolution displays. EVL receives major funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF). EVL is a founding member of StarLight and the Global Lambda Integrated Facility (GLIF), and was a lead institution of the NSF-funded OptIPuter project.

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Thuwal, Saudi Arabia

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is an international graduate-level research university located in Thuwal, on the Red Sea in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. KAUST was inaugurated in September 2009 by King Abdullah, whose dream for more than 30 years has been to build a university dedicated to inspiring a new age of scientific achievement that will impact Saudi Arabia, the region and the world. To foster its growth, KAUST Global Collaborative Research (GCR) established Special Academic Partnerships (SP) with select institutions across the world to rapidly develop key laboratories and facilities on campus and initiate world-class research and programs in coordination with KAUST faculty. Through these Special Partnerships, and other GCR Programs, KAUST has launched an active global research and education network geared towards solving challenging scientific and technological issues.

Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA)

SLA, founded in 1995 in Camas, Washington, is Sharp Corporation’s first and only US-based research and development laboratory, focusing on the trends, technology issues, and product demands of North American markets and developing technologies to match. In the process, SLA has added affiliated offices and facilities in Huntington Beach, California and Bangalore, India. SLA investigates ideas that can profoundly affect how people interact with and benefit from technology. To that end, SLA provides partial financial and in-kind support for SAGE development. SLA’s mission is in keeping with the values of Sharp Corporation, the company that developed the first practical handheld calculators, flat panel displays, and the cell phone camera, to name but a few.
